It’s always nice to see one of yours favorite photos being published. Today is the case with this article in “Le Monde” about the real estate bubble in Shanghai. The article makes emphasis on how the middle class cannot afford the purchase of apartment when speculator invest in various real estate left empty for the sake of placing money. I was happy being called on this subject since of course I spend a lot of time portraying urban scapes around shanghai and particularly lately, in a more personal project i wanted to portray the loneliness of people in a city of milions by taking large format photographs of buildings at night, showing all those different windows, poor, rich living in the same square of building, each of them behind a light, but not knowing each other, being disconnected from interaction.
This photo was taken with a shenhao large format camera with a 210 fujinon lens from the rooftop of a friend’s apartment in changning district. ( special thanks to abram & fabien for the roof access )
